ABOUT US
Heaven Helpers Closet (701) began in October 2020 at 919 East Main Street in Bismarck with a simple purpose: to provide clothing and basic necessities completely free of charge to people in our community who needed a little help.
Operating under the umbrella of Heaven Helpers Soup Cafe, our mission is to model the compassionate and selfless love of Jesus by serving others with care, respect, and compassion.
From the beginning, we wanted the Closet to be more than a place where people received donated items. We wanted every person who walked through our doors to feel welcomed, cared for, and free to choose the items that worked best for themselves and their families.
As the ministry grew, so did the support of our community. In 2023, the Clothing Store moved to a larger location at 2306 East Broadway Avenue, allowing us to serve more people and provide even more essentials.
Where We Are Today
Today, Heaven Helpers Closet (701) is growing into two locations serving two different needs. Our Clothing Store will remain at 2306 East Broadway Avenue, where guests can continue to receive free clothing, footwear, bedding, personal care items, and other essentials.Our new Home Store will be located at 919 East Main Street — the very place where the Closet first began.
As we served more families, we began seeing a growing need for household essentials. People were moving into homes with very little and needed things like dishes, cookware, towels, bedding, small appliances, beds, and basic furnishings.
We realized that helping someone get dressed was only one part of helping them begin again. There is something especially meaningful about returning to the place where our ministry started and using it to help families create a home. In a way, we are going home — to create a Home Store.
The Home Store will serve individuals and families referred by our partnering agencies, churches, schools, and community organizations.
Everything provided through both locations is completely free of charge. We are not a thrift store or retail business. Items donated to us are given directly to people in need.
What Makes Us Different
One of the things that makes Heaven Helpers Closet (701) special is that our donors become part of the gift. The giving often begins at home. Donors take time to make sure the items they give are clean, complete, organized, and ready for someone else to use. Many take that gift one step further by sharing their time with us — hanging and sizing clothing, labeling bedding and household items, sorting donations, and helping place everything where it can be easily found. Those small acts make a big difference. When someone needs a pair of jeans, a winter coat, bedding for their children, or dishes for a new home, having those items prepared and organized helps them quickly find and choose what works best for their family.
Others become part of the gift by giving financially, helping us pay the costs of keeping our doors open so we can continue providing everything to our guests at no charge. Whether someone gives an item, prepares a donation at home, shares their time, or gives financially, each person becomes part of the gift that is ultimately given to someone in need. The gift doesn't begin when an item reaches the person who needs it. It begins with the person who chooses to give.
What began in 2020 as a simple clothing ministry has grown into a community of people helping people — now serving from two locations. And while our ministry continues to grow, our heart remains the same: To meet people where they are, help provide what they need, and serve them with the compassion, kindness, and love that Jesus showed others.
